A Prayer for Ukraine /47556/ Thu, 24 Feb 2022 05:14:57 +0000 /?p=47556 Continue reading "A Prayer for Ukraine"]]> During this extremely delicate time, we聽 pray for peace in Ukraine and throughout the world.聽 We pray for loved ones who are directly affected.

鈥淚 make a heartfelt appeal to all people of goodwill to raise prayers to Almighty God that all political actions and initiatives may be at the service of human brotherhood rather than partisan interests.鈥 聽Pope Francis聽

Let us join together in prayer:

God of peace,

You come to us in quiet and in stillness;

help us to know that you are there.

May your gentleness surround us when we are afraid,

and when we are weary and tired, may we seek

refuge in Your gentle and loving arms.

Grant us peace this day, and help us to know that we are safe,

that we are loved, and that you hold us all in the palm of your hand.

Amen.

Song from St. Brother Andre CHS declared Catholic Education Week song winner /song-from-st-brother-andre-chs-declared-catholic-education-week-song-winner/ Mon, 24 Jan 2022 18:52:34 +0000 /?p=47310 Continue reading "Song from St. Brother Andre CHS declared Catholic Education Week song winner"]]> The Chance is the official song for #CatholicEducationWeek 2022: Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together

The 丝瓜视频下载 is proud to share that the winning song for this year鈥檚 Catholic Education Week (CEW) comes from !

The Ontario Catholic Schools Trustee Association (OCSTA) declared the song, The Chance, composed, written and performed by Jessica Leung鈥檚 Grade 10 and 12 French Immersion religion classes at the Markham school the winners of the province-wide competition. In a Tweet issued by OCSTA on January 19, 2022, it said, “A Chance is a beautiful song for our times, for youth, for everyone鈥 when declaring the song by students at the Markham high school the winner.

This year OCSTA had 17 recorded CEW song submissions which were then adjudicated by a third party
committee of musicians. The Chance was named the winner at OCSTA鈥檚 2022 Seminar.

Ms. Leung tasked her Grade 10 and 12 French Immersion religion students with writing an original song
for the Catholic Education Week competition. Over the course of a few weeks, the classes collaborated to
develop the lyrics, write a prayer, and prepare for a virtual performance of their finalized song.

The instrumental music was composed by Ms. Leung, with vocal soloists from students Tyler C., Natasha C., Shannon M. and Kate H. Student Sahithiya S. is the violinist and Benjamin W. and Leila L. are the prayer leaders in the piece. All of this was supported with artwork by Grade 9 students Kaitlyn L. and Nithisaa P.

In the end, 45 individuals participated in the making and performance of The Chance. The songwriting process of creating The Chance allowed students the opportunity to work together and collaborate after a year apart during remote learning caused by the pandemic, emphasizing the final lyric of the chorus, 鈥渁ll together, once again.鈥

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this beautiful, inspiring song of hope!

Grade 8 St. Margaret Mary student named winner of ShareLife鈥檚 poster contest /grade-8-st-margaret-mary-student-named-winner-of-sharelifes-poster-contest/ Thu, 20 Jan 2022 21:02:05 +0000 /?p=47297 Continue reading "Grade 8 St. Margaret Mary student named winner of ShareLife鈥檚 poster contest"]]> For the second year in a row a student from the 丝瓜视频下载 was named the winner of ShareLife鈥檚 Annual Elementary Poster Contest!

The Board congratulates Jasmin L., Grade 8 student at in Vaughan on winning the Catholic charity鈥檚 14th Annual Poster Contest.

Jasmin鈥檚 poster will become the official ShareLife English language elementary poster for the charitable organization. ShareLife supports over 40 Catholic agencies that serve some of the most vulnerable people in our community 鈥 regardless of their faith, age, or background. Jasmin鈥檚 poster will be distributed to all elementary schools and parishes in the Archdiocese of Toronto. Her poster was selected as the winner from entries submitted from students right across the entire Archdiocese.

ShareLife announced Jasmin as the winner of its 14th Annual Elementary ShareLife Poster Contest across its social media platforms on January 19th.

https://twitter.com/ShareLifeCan/status/1483819257964150785

Upon learning that her poster was selected as the winner, Jasmin said she 鈥渇elt surprised and excited because I had never entered an art contest 鈥 this was my first time! It was a great way to start 2022.鈥

Jasmin鈥檚 creativity extends beyond her visual artwork. She said, 鈥淚 don鈥檛 do a lot of drawings because I mostly play the guitar and the piano, but when I do draw or paint, I enjoy it. My influences for these artistic endeavours come from whatever I am feeling in my heart at the moment.鈥

When describing her ShareLife poster Jasmin explained, 鈥淚 decided to put people walking along the rosary because with the rosary God is always present and [I wanted] to show they are walking alongside God鈥檚 footsteps. I also included people of different ethnicities because the world is made up of different people who come together and along and follow Christ.

鈥淪hareLife is a great charity because it supports the people who are in the greatest need just like Jesus did. It is our duty as Catholics to help our brothers and sisters who may not be as blessed as some of us are.鈥

Jasmin鈥檚 teacher, Mrs. Fiorucci had this to say about Jasmin and her artwork, 鈥淛asmin鈥檚 artistic ability is truly a gift from God, and what she has created 鈥 so humbly and simply shared, is her gift back to us. This poster will forever leave a beautiful footprint along our journey.鈥

York Catholic was well represented in this year鈥檚 poster contest having three students as finalists. The other two posters from York Catholic were by Olivia, a Grade 8 student at St. Matthew CES in Markham and Milan, a Grade 8 student at St. David CES in Maple.

The Board thanks all students who entered this year鈥檚 ShareLife poster contest and congratulates Jasmin, Olivia and Milan on their beautiful creations.

鈥淚 am thinking of what St. Ignatius told us鈥e pointed out two criteria on love.
The first: love is expressed more clearly in actions than in words.
The second: there is greater love in giving than in receiving.鈥

Pope Francis

The York Catholic Nurturing Hope Spring Food Drive will run from May 25 鈥 June 8, 2021. Collection bins will be placed at the front doors of the school and families and community members will be encouraged to walk to their local participating school and place a bag of non-perishable food and/or personal hygiene items in the food bank bins between the hours of 8:30 a.m. 鈥 6 p.m. on the school鈥檚 food drive collection day.

For health and safety reasons related to the COVID-19 Pandemic, each school will only collect items on one designated day, as listed below. School food drive collection dates will be promoted through the schools鈥 networks and the Board鈥檚 Twitter account, in a way that pays homage to the volunteers of Vaccine Hunters Canada () who have helped Canadians across the country find vaccine appointments.

鈥淎s we continue to navigate through this unprecedented moment in history and slowly begin to see some glimmers of hope for a better tomorrow, there continues to be a steady increase in the number of families who require support from our local food banks,鈥 says Angela Lomuto-Corriero, the Board鈥檚 Nurturing Hope Spring Food Drive Lead and Principal at St. Padre Pio CES. 鈥淚 thank all of our schools and community members for giving generously to help others in need.鈥

Families are encouraged to take a walk to their school and place a bag of non-perishable food and/or personal hygiene items in the food bank bins. Please ensure that you maintain physical distancing and wear a mask while on school property. All food bank bins will be held in a five-day quarantine by the food banks prior to being handled by their volunteers.

The school food drive collection day schedule is listed below. Some elementary schools not listed may have already held a food drive for their local food bank. Community members are welcome to drop off items at any nearby school.
